The Family Law Branch administers the
Family Law Act 1975
and the Marriage Act 1961
and consists of the Family Law Unit, International Family Law Unit, the Family Law Council Secretariat and the Marriage Celebrants Unit.
The Australian Family Association is a voluntary, ecumenical, non-party-political organisation which has been formed to provide a forum and a vehicle for those individuals and organisations in the community concerned with the strengthening and support of the family. Their objectives are in relation to the law are to analyse laws and policies for their effect on the family and to formulate and promote corrective measures as necessary.

The Child Support Agency was developed in 1988 to assist separated parents to take responsibility for the financial support of their children. They provide information on Child support options for parents and employers. News and information on current legislation and reforms. Online calculators for Child support, Living expenses, Employers and a Budgeting tool. Forms can be filled in and submitted online and are available for Payer, Payee and Employer.
There is also a good range of very helpful publications and fact sheets in PDF format. The purpose of the Family Law Pathways Advisory Group is to provide high level advice to the Government on how to achieve a family law system which provides effective support systems for families, co-ordinates client-focussed information and services and provides pathways that are effective and appropriate. A major report on Australia’s Family Law System became available on 29 August 2001.
