Victorian Legal Centres

Victorian Legal Centres provide free legal information to assist you in understanding and protecting your legal rights. They provide confidential advice aimed at assisting people in making informed choices and decisions about the options available to them. Within the legal system, they also perform important roles in court representation, advocacy, law reform, test case litigation, referrals and community legal education.

The Community Legal Centre is a program of the Brimbank Community Centre with its principal catchment the city of Brimbank. Programs include consumer, tenancy, adult and further education, children's contact service, community development, family violence and victims assistance. The CLC provides legal information, advice and referral, community legal education, law reform (focus on prison issues). Also on roster for Western Region Intervention Order Support Project.

Operates from an outreach location one day per week at Lalor and Sunbury for clients from those areas. Night service operates every Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 pm. Focus on family law, domestic violence, credit and youth issues. Do-your-own divorce classes.

PILCH is a statewide partnership of CLCs, private law firms and The Victorian Bar Council. PILCH aims to provide greater access to legal services for disadvantaged individuals and public interest organisations in legal matters that are in the public interest, and improve and co-ordinate the performance of public interest pro bono work by the private profession. PILCH assess requests for assistance and refers cases of public interest to participating barristers and law firms, who act for the client free of charge or for a reduced fee.
